Mélange-peridotite interactions in the source of arc magmas

The mechanisms of material transfer from the slab to the overlying mantle in subduction zones are still highly debated. Whether material transfer primarily occurs during partial melting, fluid percolation, or detachment of solid diapirs has critical implications for the timing of elemental fractionation observed in arc magmas, the composition of the overlying arc crust, and the geodynamic processes in subduction zones.
